LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SERVICES

Mission
The Library was established in 1970 with a mission to support the professional education, training and research needs of the Institute in particular and the banking industry in general by providing banking and finance information. The Library has the distinguished reputation of being the best banking Library in the Region housing an excellent collection of banking related publications. The Library has the most complete reference and information service for the banking and finance profession in Kuwait.

Collection
The library collection consists of books, periodicals, training materials, research studies, annual reports, multimedia both in English and Arabic. The collection focuses on professional fields such as banking, finance, investment, strategic management, organization, behavioral sciences, human resource management, marketing, accountancy, economics, training, communication, computers etc. The reference collection includes dictionaries, directories, dissertations, encyclopedias, handbooks, guides, and manuals.

Library Membership
Membership is open to Banking sector employees. Other interested individuals from Investment/Insurance/Academic sectors may be offered membership.

Circulation
Library Members, IBS staff and students are eligible to borrow books from the lending collection. Number of items and loan periods vary depending on the type of Membership.
 
Reference, multimedia materials and periodicals are not available for borrowing.

Reference Services
Library staff is available to help users with their research and information needs. Reference queries can be submitted telephonically as well as by e-mail.

Photocopy Services
Library users may request photocopies of articles from periodicals and a limited number of pages from books. In order to follow the copyright law, only one copy of a document will be provided. Only library materials would be copied. A nominal charge of thirty fils is levied for each photocopy.

Multimedia Servies
The Library possesses a small collection of training videos. These can be viewed on the equipment available in the Library.

Online Full text Database
The Library subscribes to Proquest Banking Information Source - Online database of journal articles. ProQuest Banking Information Source combines the currency of the Internet and the perspective of industry journals to provide the ultimate financial services research tool.

Locating Reading Materials

Library Catalogue
The Library catalogue was automated in 1995. The OPAC (Library Online Public Access Catalogue) provides full bibliographic details of titles held, and is updated regularly.
 

Library materials are shelved/displayed separately in four sections viz. Reference books, English books, Arabic books, Training materials, and Periodicals.
Dissertations and the publications of CIB and Union of Arab Bankers are shelved separately.
Books are arranged on the shelves according to Dewey Decimal Classification.
Reference books are designated with letter "R".
Periodicals are displayed according to title in alphabetical order.
Finding books within the library is facilitated by using a powerful automated system which enables search by author, title and keyword.

Renewals
Loans may be renewed for a further period provided

No other reader has reserved the book.
The renewal request comes early before the expiry of due date.
Not more than two consecutive renewals shall be allowed.
Overdue books will not be renewed.

General
No person shall write upon, damage or make any mark upon any book, periodicals and other materials belonging to the library.

The reader shall be responsible for any damage or loss done to the library material and shall be required to replace such material or to pay the current value of replacement thereof.
Consuming, snacks, drinks,. use of mobiles and smoking in the library is prohibited.
Members may suggest publications for consideration for inclusion to the library collection.
Any infringement of the library rules will render the privilege of admission to and borrowing books from the library liable to forfeiture.
